Analysis of the causes of large odor of TPE elastomer
Thermoplastic elastomer TPE is a mixed polymer material. There are various oils in the formulation system. (White oil, naphthenic oil) These volatile oils are mainly composed of organic hydrocarbon compounds. These compounds are volatile at high temperatures. . Moreover, the quality of the oil directly affects the size of the odor. In addition, auxiliaries are used in some formulations, the smaller the auxiliaries, the lower the odor.
1. One of the components of TPE is a softening oil. Softening oil is a low molecular substance, which is easy to volatilize and release small molecular substances during processing or at higher temperature conditions, and easily causes a large odor to be released from the material. Low hardness (0~30A) TPE, the odor is larger than the high hardness (70~100A) TPE, odorless TPE, the hardness is usually higher.
2. The quality of the oil, the degree of hydrogenation, etc., the taste of the oil itself is different. Good softening oil has a small taste, inferior oil, heavy taste, and even a light diesel smell. For odorless TPE, high quality oils should be selected as the softener for the compounding system.
3. Selection of other components of the compounding system. Other components should try to choose components with small taste and small odor, such as the choice of plastic resin, the choice of additives, etc. should consider all aspects.
The odorless TPE is all about normal temperature conditions. In high-temperature molding, due to the volatilization of the components of the softening oil, the odor emitted by other components, etc., may cause the TPE material to have a large odor, which is a normal odor, and most of the polymer plastics have an odor. After the finished product is processed, the small molecules are evaporated and the odor is gradually reduced.
